The Layang Layang Island resort is a perfect holiday destination if you wish to see incredibly diverse and intriguing wildlife, or simply to escape from the stress of everyday life to an isolated tropical paradise with beautiful beaches and clear waters.

“Layang Layang”, which means “Shallow Reef” in Malay, is located 300 km northwest of Kota Kinabalu, the capital of the Sabah state in East Malaysia. It is part of 600 islands and reefs in the area.

An interesting fact is that it was built by the Malaysian government, initially intended as a naval base for the Malaysian navy.

Today the Layang Layang Island resort is very popular among divers from all over the world. Here you will have the chance to dive in incredible underwater scenery, with coral reefs, and many different types of marine creatures – sea horses, pipe fish, cuttlefish, hammer-head sharks, manta rays and turtles are common sightings around the island, offering an unforgettable diving experience.

However, there is much more to Layang Layang resort than just scuba diving. The island is also home to many species of migratory birds, such as Brown footed booby birds, swallows, crested terns, and many more, making it an interesting location for bird watching enthusiasts, as well.

If you are not interested in wildlife or diving, the island offers peaceful, exquisite beaches with untouched, natural beauty and crystal clear water.

To get the most of the Layang Layang Island resort, you should best visit during late spring or early summer, from April until May, when the weather is most pleasant and there is a higher chance of spotting hammer-head sharks and other wildlife.

Whether you want to see spectacular wildlife or just escape to a calm, tropical island, the Layang Layang Island resort could be an ideal destination for a unique, relaxing vacation.
